Hi Kyla and Alexander,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
As you can appreciate creating and planning an event during a pandemic, whilst we keep up to date and in line with ever-changing government guidelines and safety measures have been extremely challenging.
However, we are working hard to produce an experience that we hope will be enjoyed with and by the city as a whole.
I wanted to get in touch about a potential opportunity to be a part of Coventry Moves – the celebration to mark the beginning of Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture.
As part of this significant moment, we would like to celebrate Coventry’s history and key role in the development and manufacture of the bike.
Currently, we are looking for groups of confident and experienced cyclists that are comfortable riding with others and as part of a Peloton. Although at a slower and steady pace, participants will be needed to ride approximately 15 miles , split into two parts (7.5 miles each) along a designated route in Coventry. Each part needs to be completed in 1 hour 30 minutes. Riders also need to be open to wearing costume, a particular colour or theme.
To prepare for this special moment we need you to attend two rehearsals and show day.
Saturday 22nd May – Rehearsal – 10.30 – 1.00 pm
Friday 28th May – Bike Dress Rehearsal – 10.30 – 1.00 pm
Saturday 5th June – Show Day! – All day (9.00 – 4.00 pm)
All rehearsal dates are compulsory. Therefore, you will need to be able to attend all rehearsal dates to take part in this opportunity.
If you choose to accept this offer you will be asked to sign a participant charter form which will include a Non-disclosure agreement. Then full event information and any further details of the opportunity will be shared with you.
At the moment, we’re keeping a lot of the event details under wraps but wanted to see if you’d like to get involved. I’ve also included some information about Coventry Moves below.
Coventry Moves marks the beginning of the city’s landmark year as UK City of Culture on Saturday 5th June 2021. Despite the challenges of planning a way to mark this monumental moment in a global pandemic, it’s still going to be a city-wide celebration of everything that makes Coventry special. As part of this, we’ll be celebrating Coventry’s pioneering moments; how it’s history and resilience reimagines the future, and gives voice to the people that call this city their home.
In light of Covid-19, we have implemented and will continue to update the safety measures and protocols to respond to Covid-19 during our production process.
As a team, we continue to work closely with Coventry City Council’s Public Health Team, Public Health England, and the UK Government guidance to ensure the safety of all participants and event staff.
Measures to support a ‘Covid Safe’ environment will be in place as part of this event – which will include regular testing even if vaccinated.
We are continuing to monitor the situation regarding the Covid-19 outbreak closely. That being said, precautions will be taken during rehearsals and on the day to protect and keep everyone involved safe.
Respectfully, we advise that people classed as vulnerable under the government’s Covid-19 safety guidelines do not to put themselves forward.
We are looking for approximately 8 – 10 riders and it would be great to discuss this further and see if any of the groups you are connected to would be open to this opportunity.
Anybody who is interested and able to ride. If they can respond to Coventrymoves@coventry2021.co.uk with the email subject ‘Bike Rider 2021’ with the following information:
- Email address
- Telephone number (and best time to contact)
That would be greatly appreciated!
