Unique Visitors
a person who visits a site at least once within the reporting period. Each visitor to the site is only counted once during the reporting period, so if the same IP address accesses the site the site many times, it still only counts as one visitor. Special measures are taken by analytical programs to filter out visits that are not human, such as visits from spiders, crawlers and other bots. |
Pageviews
A page view (PV) is a Web analytics term that refers to each time a Web page is successfully loaded onto a user’s Web browser. Every time a Web page is viewed in a browser, the site’s analytical software will increase the total page view count by one. |

WEBSITE CUSTOMISATION
This section has information on the way that the Website has been built and is managed
This page is in preparation
Guidance
The following website has been invaluable in finding out how to build and customise a WordPress website – http://www.wpbeginner.com/
Installing WordPress on the Website Infrastructure
Go on the 1&1 website, login as account holder and click the right buttons to install WordPress on our account.
Our 1&1 Account details are – ??????
Password Protected Pages and Posts
These have all been setup to have the same password you used to access this information
This website gives information on how to password protect Pages and Posts – http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-password-protect-posts-in-wordpress/
Customisation using Plug-ins
A great deal of the additional capability of the site over an above the standrd WordPress model is delivered by installing, activationg and customising Plug-ins. The following is a list of the additional functionality that has been built using a range of different plug-ins.
1. Anti-Spam Protection
This is performed by a Plug-in called Akismet.
This website gives information as to how to setup and customise Akismet – http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/akismet-101-guide-for-all-wordpress-users/
To access our Akismet account go to – https://akismet.com/account/
Userid ctc3at (only lowercase & numbers allowed) Password – 8Hdioq3!C
Our API Key is – e78bdb4a7394
We are signed up for Basic Protection which is free for usage such as personal and clubs.
All spam is directed to a Spam folder and deleted after 15 days
2. Embedded PDFs
In order to eliminate the need to reformat table data from ride schedules sent out as newsletters into tables on web pages a plug-in has been installed which allows PDF’s to be included ‘as-is’
The Plug-in is called PDF Embedder – https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/pdf-embedder/#description
To use it just use the Add Media option as normal, PDF Embedder will then do all the clever stuff to include the PDF as is in the page.
3. Contact Form
This functionality has been built using an additional Plug-in called WPForms-lite
This website gives information as to how to setup and customise WPForms (the paid for professional version and our free – WPForms-lite version) – http://www.wpbeginner.com/news/wpforms-most-beginner-friendly-wordpress-contact-form-plugin/
Note that once the form has been created it is only the ‘shortcode’ that is pasted into the Contact page
There is a Main Menu Contact form and a number of additional ones for queries regarding specific activities, such as contact a Tour Leader. These can be found in the WPForms section of the Dashboard sidebar.
The Main Menu Contact form is setup with chairman@coventryctc.org.uk as the recipient
4. Making Links from Gallery Photos
The standard Gallery function will on let you build one link from the whole gallery. In order to have individual photos within a gallery have its own unique link it is necessary to use an additional plug-in called WP Gallery Custom Links
5. Using theSlideshow function
This uses a plugin called NextGen
The NextGen function can be ccessed from the Dashboard sidebar – Look for the Green square icon with ‘Gallery’
6. Using non-default Fonts – Easy Google Fonts
This is the plug-in – https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-google-fonts/
The fonts available with the Theme are very limited. The following plug-in has been installed to allow for a degree of customisation of the fonts used to build pages and posts.
This video outlines how the plug-in works – https://vimeo.com/77878709
This plug-in adds an additional Customization option called Typography
- Go to Appearance – Customize – Typography tab
- Customise the necessary font you need
- Click Publish
Currently I have not found any way of modifying –
- the default font for page / post data entry ….. I suggest using Verdana 10pt for the bulk of the text and Arial 12pt for any section headers.
- the font type and size for the menus … I will continue investigating
7. Website Monitoring
The Plug-in Google Analytics has been installed to track the way that the website is being used
This descibes how to install and use the plug-in http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-install-google-analytics-in-wordpress/
Google Analytics Account has been built and linked to my gmail account ‘alan.s.jelley@gmail.com’
Maintenance
Plug-in Updating
On a quite frequent basis updates for the installed Plug-in seem to become available, and are flagged in the rotating arrows symbol on the Dasboard header. Currently in the absence of any reason not to update them I click on the symbol and initiate the updates.
Tables using Tablepress
Adding additional function buttons to tables
This describes the facility and how you add the additionl code to the shortcode put in the page to call the table
The data tables Plug-in has been installed

CTC Coventry pays for www.coventryctc.org.uk
….. These are £7pa each at the moment.
Hosting
emailboxes – There’s 8 at the moment. I think there’s no limit on the number we can have.
Storage – is 50 GB. At the moment 20MB is used.
Access – via webmail, IMAP, POP, & probably more
email sending – SMTP & webmail, possibly more
Hosting – sftp, MySQL and the ability to run any of about 70 different programs (“applications”) on the host such as WordPress.
No doubt there are limits on storage, traffic & database usage, but it is unlikely that we get anywhere near them.
Payment
George Riches pays half the costs (for cycle advocacy) and CTC Coventry pays the other half. £72 pa (2x£36).
