In 2021 the Club will be marking its 100th Anniversary. Over the course of 2021 and into 2022 to celebrate this auspicious milestone the Club is organising a wide range of Special Events and undertaking a number of Birthday Activities 

This document is intended to guide you through what is being planned and act as a central point where you can find out more information and maybe order tickets for events or apply to join activities.

The first table has a Calendar of the planned Events. The second table has a list of the various celebratory Activities.

Sunday 11th April Club Anniversary Sunday Ride

 

Originally planned as a mass event unfortunately due to Covid restrictions just two Club Rides on Sunday 11th April will acknowledge and celebrate the Club’s Inaugural ride back in 1921 by passing through Fillongley the destination for that first ride. It will be interesting to think about the differences in the roads, the traffic, the bikes, the equipment and the riders over the course of the intervening 100 years.

Sunday 6th June 100 mile Centenary Challenge
Challenge yourself to do 100 miles over Bike Week

9th – 17th June Centenary UK tour from York to Edinburgh A moving on tour carrying your own luggage covering approx 325 miles over 7 days at around 45 miles per day The route starts at York and travels through North York Moors, Durham, Northumberland,  Berwick, Melrose and then ends in Edinburgh.

There are 12 places available

We will staff a stall to publicise the Club and cycling in Coventry at an event held by the War Memorial Park Steering Committee

Sunday 18th July Special Celebratory BBQ at Fillongley
The Special Celebratory Bar-b-Que at Fillongley will now be on Sunday July 18th.  Fillongley was the destination for the Club’s very first ride in 1921. This will be one of the gastronomic highlights of the 100th birthday Celebration and an opportunity to sing ‘Happy Birthday‘ with a Centenary Birthday cake. As one of the main social event of the Centenary year this will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy a quality BBQ informally with other cyclists, families, partners and friends.

Womens Festival of Cycling 2021
A follow-on to the very successful Women’s Festival held by us in 2020

6th – 8th August Centenary Womens Tour to Oxfordshire and Worcestershire
A short moving on tour carrying your own luggage over three days passing through some gorgeous countryside, pretty villages and an optional stop in Stratford-on-Avon.

Covering 40-50 miles each day. Accommodation is likely to use the Premier Inn and Travelodge in Banbury and Evesham.

Sunday 12th September 100 km Centenary Challenge ride  If you normally do just the shorter rides then maybe this is something to challenge yourself !

The route will be :- Start at War Memorial Park – Long Itchington – Badby – Clifton-upon-Dunsmore –  returning to the War Memorial Park

13th–23rd April Centenary Overseas Tour to Mallorca
 
This is a fixed centre tour based on the island of Mallorca. The island is a mecca for Cyclists and Walkers of all standards and capabilities. There will be a range of options for Day Rides,Walks and Sightseeing

The tour will be a jet2holiday package including Birmingham flights, transfers, and accommodation at the Pollensa Park Hotel in Puerto Pollenca. 

The offer is for a 10 day duration however participants  can book for part of the period or even to extend their time.

There are Options to take your own bike or Hire one in Resort

A Long weekend, Friday to Monday, single centre based ‘tour’ with four day rides (with long and shorter options each day) around the new South Downs National Park.

Centenary Flower Bed Coventry City Council have agreed to create a centenary flower bed to our design which will be installed in Greyfriars Green, near to the City Centre.
