Coventry CTC – Obligation for ride participants to conform to good practice

Every participant, whether a Cycling UK Member or Guest must comply with these obligation when participating in a Coventry CTC ride
 

General Statement

Coventry CTC  ride participants are expected to adhere to established safety guidelines and good practice protocols to ensure the safety, enjoyment, and reputation of the group. While individual responsibility is paramount, following these standards is a key part of participating in group rides. 
 
 
Participants are expected to follow these guidelines:
 
        •     Adhere to the Highway Code: Always comply with the Highway Code and the Countryside Code.
        •     Follow Ride Leader Instructions: Listen to and promptly follow instructions from the ride leader.
        •     Ride Responsibly
              • Do not ride more than two abreast, and drop to single file on narrow or busy roads.
              • Maintain a steady pace and avoid sudden stops (shout “stopping” or “slowing” if necessary).
              • If there are hearing impaired Riders in the group then please additionally use hand signals
              • Do not overlap wheels with the rider in front.
              • If the ride splits, do not stop near a junction or blind bend.
              • When passing pedestrians or horses, do so slowly and with plenty of room.
        •     Sign In:
              • Club Riders must enter their details in the sign-on sheet, which includes providing emergency contact details.
              • Guests complete a guest registration form to be covered by the Cycling UK Insurance

        •     Equipment :
              • You must ensure that your bike is in a safe, legal, and working order. 
              • Ensure that you have the essential equipment and tools to repair your bike for ‘normal’ issues e.g. spare inner tube, tyre leavers, pump / inflator for your valve type, spare link for your chain size
              • You are responsible for the completeness and safety of any repair performed on your bike whilst on a ride
              • Ensure that you have cycle lights if likely to be riding in low light conditions
              • Ensure that you are wearing suitable clothes to maintain your body heatin poor weather conditions

Participant Safety and Conduct
 
    Safety Responsibility: Although riding in a group, each individual is responsible for their own safety, and must make their own decisions as to safety at every stage of the ride
    Rider Conduct: Be courteous and considerate to all road users and fellow riders.
    Alcohol/Drugs: Smoking, vaping, and drinking alcohol are generally not permitted during rides and will be challenged.
    Leaving the Ride: If a participant decides to leave the ride, they must inform the ride leader. 
 
Safety Measures and Requirements
 
    Helmets: While not legally compulsory, wearing a helmet is highly recommended for safety.
    Age Requirements: Children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and all participants under 18 must have a signed parental consent form.
    Non-members: Non-members can participate in up to three rides as a trial before being asked to join. 
 
Guests must complete 
 
Enforcement of Standards
Ride leaders have the authority to ask a participant to leave the ride if their behaviour persistently endangers themselves or others.
