SHONA HUDSON

Shona comes to us one of Cycling UKs 100 Women in Cycling 2019, and brings a special combination of talents to our team.

This is an article about Shona from the Cycling UK Website – https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/shona-hudson

How long have you been cycling

I got back into my cycling when I was 28 when my brother dragged me along to complete the London to Brighton charity ride. And then I met my husband and we did loads of trips abroad and regular cycle rides together. In 2015 when I left full time work I got together with my friend and we decided to take part in a ladies only ride the Belles Of Bevoir and whilst we were not the fastest we enjoyed the camaraderie and cakes ! I then got involved with more ladies cycling and have never looked back and now cycle every week and really enjoy the social side of cycling.

What got you into cycling

I love being outdoors and have always loved the freedom that a bike gives you. It is something I feel I can easily do on my own and with others but it was really something that I loved to do with my husband originally. Now it is just such a great thing for me to do and I have made so many friends and met such lovely people that it is an essential part of my life!

When did you join the club and why

I joined the club in 2021 after I had tried out a few rides. I was encouraged to come along by some cycling friends and I discovered parts of Coventry that I never knew existed. What I really liked was how friendly everyone in this club is and you could choose between ladies only rides or mixed rides. It really has so much to offer that I think there is something for everyone.

Why did you become a ride leader

I became a ride leader a few years ago with British Cycling primarily because I wanted to lead rides in my own area and encourage ladies to cycle. I wear hearing aids and really wanted to encourage like minded people that may be nervous about getting on a bike or have a hearing problem to show them how great it could be.

What bike do you ride

Liv Avail although when I started out it was quite an old Ribble bike that I still have a soft spot for

What is your favourite film

What is your favourite music
