Coventry CTC TriVets Ride 2025

TriVets rides are organised every three years by Cycling UK groups across the country on behalf of the national body. The 100-mile rides are open to all riders who are at least 50-years old. Since 2001 we (Coventry CTC) have organised a TriVets ride and are looking forward to our 9th event on 15th June 2025. It is a great opportunity to share the best parts of our patch with riders from outside of our area.

OUR ROUTE

Coventry CTC’s 2025 Tri-Vets route takes you on a tour across the topographic and cultural divides of the English Midlands.

(This is a image overview of the route. Please do not use is for any route planning.)

The low point (c. 54m elevation) of the route comes at around 45 miles and just after the lunch stop when we cross the River Welland on its way eastwards to the sea at The Wash. A second significant low point (c. 66m elevation) comes at 93 miles when we cross the River Leam, a tributary of the River Avon, on its way westwards to the sea in the Severn Estuary. Immediately after these two low points are two of the more challenging climbs of the day at Cottingham and Frankton.

Our route passes right by the source of the River Avon in the village of Naseby. The source of the River Welland is near Sibbertoft, some 3 miles north of Naseby; The Civil War battle of Naseby was fought between the two.

Whereas the catchment divide of the Midlands runs north – south through Saddlington, Sibberforft and Naseby, a long established cultural divide runs north – south some ten miles to the west. This is Watling Street, a Roman road later developed and maintained by the Anglo-Saxons and now broadly followed by the A5. In the centuries of conflict with the Danes before the Norman Conquest, this became from time to time a tribal boundary which has persisting relevance. This is well evidenced by the striking preponderance of place names of Scandinavian origin east of the line, one example of which is Naseby. However, for the purposes of our Tri-Vets ride the significance of the A5 is that it must be crossed both ways with care.
